Earlier this year, Assassin’s Creed 4 Black Flag was pulled from Steam because of a technical problem that the developers were working on to resolve. This sparked rumors that Ubisoft was planning a remake of the popular pirate game and that they would be using the studio’s expertise in ocean technology to modernize the stealth action series. Thankfully, Ubisoft has now clarified that this is not the case and the classic will return to Steam soon.
The sixth mainline entry in the Assassin’s Creed franchise, Black Flag was released in 2013 and introduced a new era of the franchise with naval warfare. While the series had previously been confined to city streets, Black Flag offered a more open world and a classy swashbuckling adventure that featured a mix of stealth assassination, set-piece action, and naval combat.
While a remake of this classic Assassin’s Creed game would be very welcome, Ubisoft has other plans in the works that may make fans of the series happy. The company is working on a sequel to Black Flag that will not take place in videogame form but in Korean digital comics form. The series, titled Forgotten Temple, will be developed by Redice and is due to launch later this month on the Webtoon platform. The series will follow the escapades of Captain Edward Kenway as he leads his crew in the Caribbean during the Golden Age of Piracy.
