A third entry in a co-op zombie FPS is in the works.
A third entry in a co-op shooter series is always welcome, especially when it’s a popular one like Killing Floor. The franchise started with an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod and has grown into two successful titles in its own right, with more than 28 million players between the original and sequel so far. Tripwire Interactive announced the third game during Gamescom’s Opening Night Live event this week, and the gory teaser trailer is sure to make fans of the genre excited.
The trailer is short, and it doesn’t show off much gameplay beyond a playable character shooting mutant creatures in various settings. However, it’s got a great look and feel to it. The monsters are wild mechanical abominations, with limbs that can crush or slice you to death. There’s plenty of blood, as well, and that’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a team-based shooter set in a dystopian future.
The game will see you taking on the role of a Nightfall specialist, and you’ll be able to join forces with up to five teammates. You’ll fight waves of Zeds in a near-future setting, earning dosh and skill unlocks as you progress.
No release date was revealed for the title, but it will be available on Steam and Epic Store, PlayStation 5, and the Xbox Series X|S console system. It’s set in 2091, 70 years after the events of Killing Floor 2, and megacorporation Horzine has produced the ultimate army. Only the rogue group known as Nightfall stands between these infernal creations and humanity.

Gamescom has been teasing new titles for some time now, and the event’s Opening Night Live showcased several of those games in a series of extended trailers. Among those was the third entry in the Killing Floor franchise, which was officially announced in a gory trailer.
The studio is bringing the horror-action to PCs and consoles, with a release date set for sometime in 2023. The teaser doesn’t reveal much else, but it will see you joining a rebel rogue group called Nightfall to fight against Horzine’s obedient horde of bioengineered monstrosities.
The developers at Tripwire Interactive are no strangers to the FPS genre, with the first Killing Floor starting life as an Unreal Tournament 2004 mod before becoming a standalone game in 2009. They went on to release the 2016 sequel and have continued to support it with free and premium post-launch content. The third game builds on that legacy, and harnessing the power of Unreal Engine 5, it promises to be the most graphically gruesome entry yet. Check out the gory trailer below.
