Want to hook up your iPhone with Windows 11? Well now you can thanks to an updated version of Microsoft’s Phone Link app, which has been rolled out with iPhone support. This is a handy feature that lets you see all your iMessage and SMS messages as well as making calls, transferring data and much more, but it’s important to note that this only works via Wi-Fi. The process is relatively simple as all you need to do is open the app and follow the guided instructions, but it’s important that your Bluetooth is turned on on your iPhone, the latest version of iOS is installed and you allow ‘Share System Notifications’, ‘Show Notifications’ and ‘Sync Contacts’ permissions.
As we all know, the upcoming release of Windows 11, codenamed Fluent Design, brings a whole host of improvements across the operating system. This includes new icons that are more consistent with the Apple design, a new Start menu and a fresher look overall. But it’s not just the software that’s getting an overhaul; many of the most popular laptop and 2-in-1 models from manufacturers like Microsoft, Dell and Lenovo have already been listed as Windows 11 ready by the respective brands. This means they will be able to be upgraded to the new operating system when it becomes available, which is likely to be in October this year.
While a lot of people will already have their devices set up to upgrade, for anyone who doesn’t or doesn’t want to wait it’s good to know that connecting your iPhone to Windows 11 is still possible. In fact, this is easier than ever now that the Phone Link app is finally getting iPhone support. To connect your device, simply follow the steps as outlined in this video from Microsoft.
When you’re finished, simply head over to your File Explorer and you’ll notice a brand-new drive labeled ‘Apple iPhone’. From here, you can import a selection of photos and videos by clicking the Import pictures and videos option. You can also view internal storage, as well as make a backup of your device’s contents, by opening the ‘Apple iPhone’ drive and selecting Internal storage. This is a great way to ensure that you don’t lose any precious data on your phone should something go wrong. Alternatively, you can use iTunes to backup and restore your iPhone with ease.
